ICC ODI World Cup Winners From 1975 to 2019

The One Day International World Cup, or ODI World Cup, is an elite cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council and held every four to five years.

Each edition lasts several weeks before concluding with an epic showdown match that decides the victor.

The time has finally come for another instalment of this multi-team competition, beginning October 5 in India. Over time, there have been various World Cup seasons when different teams have won.

Since 1975, England has hosted and been the host nation for the ODI World Cup, considered one of the premier events in international cricket.

Traditionally divided into group stage (with round robin format), knockout rounds (quarter-finals and semi-finals), then finally, final stages.

West Indies won its inaugural edition, while England claimed victory during ODI World Cup 2019. India hosted and won in 1981 and 1983 before hosting this edition as the host nation for the 2023-2024 ODI World Cups, respectively.

England eventually emerged victorious thanks to New Zealand having scored more boundaries.

2023 ODI World Cup

2023 will mark the 13th edition of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 – an International Cricket Council-run quadrennial One Day International tournament between men’s national team representatives from four continents that begins October 5 and ends November 19, 20. India will play host.

Ten national teams will participate: Afghanistan, Australia, and Bangladesh. England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, New Zealand, and England are the defending champions, having defeated New Zealand in the final.

West Indies missed out for the first ever time! England are the reigning champions, having claimed the 2019 edition by defeating them.

India will serve as the sole host for the men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time after Indian subcontinent countries shared hosting duties between 1987, 1996, and 2011 (Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens in Mumbai hosted the semis; Narendra Modi Stadium will host final).

Ten stadiums across India will serve as venues. The tournament begins July 8 in Bangalore before moving across India for its debut, before concluding at Narendra Modi Stadium near Ahmedabad for the final.
