Mohammad Amir Will Play IPL 2025 Know Here Reason Behind It!

Mohammad Amir: The strained relationship between India and Pakistan has prevented Pakistani players from participating in the Indian Premier League ever since its inaugural edition, which was held in 2008.

Political tensions between India and Pakistan have been so high that the two countries have not played a bilateral match since 2012.

If everything goes according to plan, former Pakistani speedster Mohammad Amir could be eligible to participate in the IPL in 2025.

Mohammad Amir is trying to get his British passport as soon as possible so he can play in the IPL in 2025.

Amir, who has been living in the United Kingdom for the past two years, said that he would consider playing in the Indian Premier League by 2024. In an earlier interview, Amir confirmed that, since he played for Pakistan, he would not represent the England Cricket Team.

Mohammad Amir Will Play IPL in 2025 if All Goes Well

According to reports, Mohammad Amir will play in the IPL 2025. A sports journalist took to X and hinted that Amir could play in IPL 2025 since he would be receiving a British passport.

“Mohd. Amir will likely play in the IPL 2025, as he’ll be getting a British passport by 2024. Which teams could buy him? RR, or CSK. “Hard to imagine him being unsold,” read the tweet.

Mohammad Amir stunned the cricket community when he announced his retirement from international cricket at age 28 in 2020.

The 31-year-old played for the Pakistani cricket team in all three formats, including 36 Tests, 51 ODIs, and 50 Tests. He has taken 119 Test wickets, including four five-wicket hauls. He took 81 wickets for the 50-over version and 59 in the truncated format.

As many as thirteen Pakistani players dominated the IPL’s first edition. These players are Shoaib Akhtar (Umar Gul), Salman Butt (Mohammad Hafeez), Shoaib Asif (Mohammad Hafeez), Sohail Tanvir (Mohammad Asif), Kamran Akmal (Younis Khan), Misbah-ul Haq, Shahid Afridi, and Azhar Mahmood.

Mohammad Amir: ‘We’ll See When The Time Comes’

In an interview with Imran SIDDIQUE of Dawn News, Amir was asked if Amir would be interested in playing for the IPL if an opportunity arose after acquiring British citizenship.

Amir’s words:

Imran, this is a sensitive subject. It isn’t a good idea to discuss it (IPL) because we will find out when the time comes. Now is not the time to talk about it. I’ll wait until the IPL is over to see if I can play.

How can Mohammad Amir Play In The IPL?

Amir was born in Pakistan and should not be allowed to participate in the Indian Premier League. A Pakistani player can play in the IPL if they obtain the citizenship of a different country.

Amir, who married English lawyer Narjis Khan in 2016, moved to England in 2020. To be eligible to become a British citizen, a spouse or civil partner must have lived in the UK for three years.

Amir will complete his fourth academic year in 2024 and should earn his British citizenship shortly.

Amir is not the first player who will be able to play in the IPL this way. Azhar Mahmood, who played for Pakistan but had British citizenship at the time, played for the Punjab Kings in 2012. Mahmood played a few matches for KKR as well in 2015.

I have one year. I have no idea what the situation would be. I move in small steps. I don’t even know where I will end up in a year.

Nobody knows what the future holds. Amir said to ARY News that he would “take advantage of the best opportunities I have” when he received his passport in 2023.
