Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024 following Hardik Pandya’s trade with Mumbai Indians. Gil replaced Hardik as captain, who led them to two IPL titles (in 2022 and 2023) and one runner-up finish.

Shubman led the Gujarat Titans through a successful 2022 season and an outstanding 2023 run. Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket for Gujarat Titans, stated his on-field performances proved his maturity and abilities.

Hardik Pandya, the first captain for the Gujarat Titans, has led them through two successful IPL seasons – winning an IPL title and reaching the finals.

Now he wants to return to Mumbai Indians – we respect his decision and wish him all the best with any future endeavours.”

Gill was one of the top scorers in last year’s IPL, scoring 890 runs at an average of 59.33 over 17 matches – only second to Virat Kohli, who amassed 973 runs!

As one with an excellent track record from 2023, Gill was an obvious selection as captain; Kane Williamson was also considered, but ultimately, Gill was chosen. The franchise believed he best represented its brand.

“We have had two outstanding seasons, and I look forward to leading our team with an exciting brand of cricket,” Gill said on his promotion.

Hardik Pandya’s return is an exciting development for MI. He will join teammates such as Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bhumrah, Ishan Kishan, and other teammates he first rose to prominence with before making his India debut in 2016. Hardik was India’s leading all-rounder during MI’s four IPL victories from 2015-20.
