Born in Karnataka, Studied Till Higher Secondary

Samaysagar Ji Maharaj was born on 27 October 1958 in Belagavi, Karnataka. Their name at birth was Shantinath. He is the youngest of 6 siblings.

Father Mallapa Jain and mother Srimanti Jain kept all the brothers and sisters in a religious environment.

The second son, Vidyadhar, took initiation at 22 and started ascetic life as Vidyasagar Ji. After him, one by one, everyone in the family took initiation. Samaysagar Ji Maharaj studied till higher secondary.

Took Celibacy Vow At The Age Of 17

At 17, he felt like renunciation like his elder brother, and he took the vow of celibacy on May 2 1975. In December of the same year, he took Kshullak Diksha in the Datia Sonagiri area of Madhya Pradesh.

Kshullak means small initiation. She is the first in the category of saints in Jain society. He took the ALAK initiation on October 31 1978.

After 5 years of Kshullak initiation, Samaysagar ji took Muni initiation on March 8 1980, in Dronagiri, Siddha Kshetra of Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

The initiation guru of his family life was his elder brother Acharya Vidyasagar. Samaysagar ji became the first disciple of Vidyasagar ji. From here, his ascetic life began, and he adopted the strict rules of penance.

What Are Kshullak and Aalak

In Jainism, 11 roles of Shravakas, i.e. sages, have been considered. Among these 11 roles, the best role is named Kshullak. Kshullak means small.

It also has two types – one is Kshullak, and the other is Aalak. Both eat by alms like monks, but Kshullak has one open and a sheet, and Ailak has only one open.

Kshullakas eat food in utensils, but Ailaka Sadhuvat eats it only in Panipat (fingers of palms). Kshullak also cuts hair and also gets hair cut with scissors, but Aalak only cuts hair. Alek can wear a white loincloth.

Acharya Samaysagar Ji Maharaj took the responsibility of awakening the monks of the Sangh and the society to the Jain sect, scriptures and ideology.
