Format

• This edition will feature a new format, with the Super Six stage starting on January 30. The three teams progressing from the four groups will be entered into.
• Two groups of six teams will determine the Semi-Finalists.
• To determine the finishing positions of 13 to 16, the bottom-placed teams must play a placement game.
• This will be South Africa’s third Under 19 World Cup, following previous editions of 1998 and 2020.
• The teams will all play two warm-up matches in South Africa from January 13 to 17.

Key Dates

On the tournament’s opening day, January 19, Ireland will face the USA in the host city, while the West Indies will meet the hosts in Potchefstroom.

The opening match of Group D (Afghanistan against Pakistan) takes place on January 20 in East London. Group C begins on January 21 in Kimberley. Sri Lanka will play Zimbabwe in the opening match of group action.

From January 30 onwards, the Super Six stage begins. The top teams in Groups A, D, and B are grouped in this stage. Still, they do not play the teams in the same position in Group D. The top team in Group A, for example, will play the second and the third teams in Group D.

The semi-finals will begin on February 6, and the final will be on the 11th. The semi-finals and the last will occur at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.

Tournament History

The first tournament occurred in 1988, the Youth Cricket World Cup. Australia, the hosts, won that tournament by beating Pakistan with five wickets. South Africa hosted the next edition after a 10-year gap. This time, England was the winner.

India, the defending champions of the tournament, has won five titles. Australia is the second-best team, with three titles. Pakistan won the title twice, in 2004 and 2006. Bangladesh, England and South Africa have also won once.
