Now Mitchell Starc Become Most Expensive Player of IPL History

IPL Auction 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders have recently confirmed they have signed Australia’s left-arm quick Mitchell Starc back into IPL action after an eight-year absence, making an incredible comeback at an auction held on December 19 in Dubai for Rs 24.75 crore – this marked a considerable increase over SRH signing of Aussie captain Pat Cummins at only 20.5 crore rupees earlier in the day.

Starc plans on using this tournament as practice for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in June. His base price for participation was Rs 2 crore.

Rishabh Pant of Delhi raised his paddle at the Delhi table. DC withdrew at 9.6 crores, prompting Kolkata Knight Riders to enter. MI withdrew at 9.8 crore, prompting Gujarat Titans to enter.

GT and KKR had left everyone in shock in the auction room when they engaged in an intense bidding war over overseas frontlines that left cash registers ringing like bells.

Neither one gave in; the cash registers kept ringing with each successive bid they placed against one another. KKR managed to secure Starc’s services through the acquisition of KKR.

Starc stands out because he can quickly change pace and swing the ball. Starc played his final IPL match for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015.

In his debut season the year prior, he took 20 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 14.55 and an economy rate of 6.76 – his average was 14.05.

Since 2015, Starc has not participated in this tournament due to various circumstances and injuries but was recently signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 12 Million in 2018.

Starc last made his Australian cricket team appearance during the T20 World Cup over one year ago, taking 73 wickets over 58 matches with an average score of 22.91.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had signed Pat Cummins, Australia’s captain, for Rs 20.50 crores at auction, breaking their previous record earlier today. Australian quick Josh Hazlewood also went unsold.

Pat Cummins Second Most Expensive Player in IPL Auction 2024

An Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins, became the most expensive player ever sold at auction during an Indian Premier League bidding war involving Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won after outbidding all three rival teams. Pat was sold for Rs 20.50 crore after winning over Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad.

SRH were searching for a bowler with solid leadership qualities, as their past two seasons had left them without one.

Cummins led Australia to success at both the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup tournaments held since 2023, particularly at their respective finals in Ahmedabad, where he took out Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to derail Indian innings.

Mumbai Indians struggled hard to bring the price up to INR 4.8 crore with Chennai Super Kings before pulling out.

When CSK thought they had acquired all three players after signing World Cup breakout star Rachin Ravindra for INR 1.8 million and Shardul Thakur for INR 2 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to join.

Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged as an unlikely contender after purchasing Sri Lankan Wanindu Hasaranga for only INR 1.5 crore at base price.

At just INR 20 crore, their bid closed out the nail-biting auction process, with Royal Challengers Bangalore pushing their limit but losing out in the end to Hyderabad.

Cummins was once again one of the standout players in IPL this season, leading Australia to win their World Test Championship title and retaining the Ashes of England against England while stunning an Indian audience at Ahmedabad’s ODI World Cup Final.

Additionally, in 2020, he became one of the most expensive foreign leagues when bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at a staggering cost of $2 Million – taking 17 wickets with an economy rate of 8.29 over 16 IPL games while becoming known for hitting 50s quickly on both offence and defence!

Cummins may not always excel in T20 cricket, but he remains an invaluable player for the Indian Premier League. At their auction of 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Cummins for Rs 15.50 crore.

On Tuesday, 19th December, Cummins broke the record set by Sam Curran at the 2023 auction for selling for Rs 18.50 crore – becoming the first ever IPL auction player to surpass the 20 crore mark – all auction tables and crowd members within Coca-Cola Arena Dubai cheered in excitement upon hearing of this news.

Cummins joins Australian teammate Travis Head – one of the most talented international batters currently active – who was acquired for Rs 6.8 million by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

These purchases represent personnel changes across departments at SRH.

It can be expected that SRH may rejig their preferred playing lineup in preparation for an upcoming event.

CSK spends INR 14 crore for Daryl Mitchell

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell scored two hundred against India during the World Cup – both in the semi-final and league stages – proving himself worthy of World Cup Hero status.

Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings engaged in an intense bidding war in Dubai, eventually reaching an offer price of INR11.75 crore after DC pulled out. Unfortunately for PBKS, though, Chennai outbid them for INR14.75 crore.

Punjab purchases Harshal Patel for Rs. 11.75 crore

Punjab was unsuccessful in signing Mitchell but still managed to land India’s all-rounder Harshal Patel after outbidding Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Kings with an offer worth Rs.11.75 crore.

They also secured Chris Woakes for INR 4.20 crore while South African star Gerald Coetzee from World Cup with 21 wickets from 10 matches was sold off to Mumbai Indians for five crore.
