Shivaji Rao Gaikwad (popularly known by his stage name Rajinikanth) has distinguished himself through his contributions to Tamil cinema since being born on December 12, 1950, in Bengaluru to parents of Marathi Hindu descent and attending Acharya Pathasala Public School before later moving on to Gavipuram Government Kannada Model School to complete his education.

Rajinikanth began doing odd jobs immediately upon graduation in the late 1960s. For a time, he served as a coolie before later transitioning into bus driving. Rajinikanth made his acting debut while serving as a bus driver.

Rajinikanth followed his dreams by enrolling in acting classes at Madras Film Institute. Here, he was discovered by Tamil filmmaker K Balachander, who suggested learning Tamil and giving himself the name Rajinikanth;

K Balachander would later make Rajinikanth’s cinematic debut alongside Apoorva Raagangal as his partner in cinematic ventures.

Amitabh discussed Rajinikanth at the 2019 IFFI event in Goa, recalling their filming relationship in 1991’s Hum. Amitabh likened their friendship to being family: we often communicate and stay in contact;

In 2017, to a local news station, he noted they used to speak as though they were friends while filming Bhagwaan Dada.

“Hrithik remembers he graciously forgave many errors from me during shooting when Rajini Sir would apologize when something went wrong, my grandfather (director).
