Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s newest batting superstar, was named on Tuesday the ICC Player of the Month’ for February.
This follows his impressive performance in the Test Series against England, where he amassed over 700 runs.
The 22-year-old southpaw scored 712 runs in five matches. This is the highest total by an Indian batter during a test series against England.
In February, the Indian opener set several records. It equalled a long-standing record for the most sixes scored in a test inning (12).
Jaiswal scored two double-hundreds, three half-centuries and a century in the recently concluded series against England. The hosts won the match 4-1. Jaiswal played a major role in this victory.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was thrilled when he heard about his win. “I hope to get more ICC awards in the future,” he said.
This is my first five-match series. 4-1 won the series in the way I played. I really enjoyed it. It was an amazing experience to share with my friends, and I really enjoyed it.
Jaiswal has had a strong start to his international career, and the statistics show that he is already one of the top Test openers around the world.
Jaiswal said that the celebration in Rajkot following his 214-run knock was the one he most enjoyed. “I enjoyed and felt something when I celebrated my two-hundred in Rajkot,” Jaiswal said. “I was living, and I was,” he said.
He also scored 219 at Visakhapatnam. With back-to-back two-hundreds at the age of 22 years and 49 days, he became the third-youngest batter in the history of Test cricket to have recorded two double-hundreds.
Jaiswal had a stellar month, scoring 560 runs with an average of 112, including 20 sixes. He continued his form in March and reached the 1000-run milestone, the second-fastest Indian to reach the landmark.
Jaiswal won the award over New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka.
ICC WTC Championship India Position
The Indian Cricket Team is currently atop the World Test Championship table for 2023-25, thanks to six victories from nine Tests. Jaiswal has scored 1028 runs, the most in the current WTC cycle.
Jaiswal is the first Indian to win the Men’s Player Of The Month award since Shubman Gil in September 2023.
Kane Williamson helped his team to a 2-0 victory in the Test Series against South Africa with 403 runs, including three hundreds from four innings.
Pathum Nissanka was the first Sri Lankan to score a 100-plus in 50-over cricket. He scored 346 runs over three ODIs against Afghanistan.
