Babar Azam Reclaim the 1st Position in ODI Ranking

Babar Azam made history Wednesday (20 December) when he returned to the top ranking in the ICC ODI Rankings with 824 rating points, beating out Shubman Gill (810) from India’s opening squad by taking back over as No. 1.

Shubman Gill temporarily overtook Babar due to being unavailable during India’s three ODI matches with South Africa. Still, with Babar back ahead as No. 1, these rankings quickly adjusted back.

Gill now sits second with 810 rating points compared with 824 for Azam as leader, while Gill takes second with 810 rating points behind Babar’s impressive total.

Under Babar Azam’s leadership, Pakistan has yet to compete in an ODI match since World Cup 2016 ended on 11 November at Eden Gardens in Kolkata against England.

Though their playing time may have diminished since then, Babar’s rating did not decline, though Gill lost points from missing SA ODIs. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other veteran stars from India remain at the top of the rankings.
