UP Police Recruitment: On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued an order providing 3 years of age relaxation to applicants who apply for one of 60,244 police constable posts in Uttar Pradesh.
The directive from the Chief Minister was issued after youths and public representatives highlighted its potential negative ramifications on professional prospects for young people living in states.
On Tuesday, two MLAs representing Jewar (Gautam Buddh Nagar), Dhirendra Singh and Sanjay Sharma from Anupshahar (Bulandshahr), met with the chief minister in Delhi to press their demand for age relaxation.
Rashtriya Lok Dal was another party that launched a public participation drive for this demand in Western Uttar Pradesh.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the Principal Secretary (Home Department) to grant a three year relaxation in age limit for police recruitment candidates of all categories this time,” according to an official statement from his office.
On December 23, the state government announced their recruitment of 60,244 constables. Applications will open for this process beginning December 27 and closing January 16.
The minimum age for applicants for consideration is 18, while the maximum age limit has been announced as 22. Two BJP lawmakers wrote to the chief minister asking him to consider relaxing the upper limit by three to five years due to the impact of the COVID-19 virus in recent years.
24102 of the 60,244 vacant positions in the police department have been set aside as reserved positions: 6,024 for economically disadvantaged sections, 16262 for Other Backward Classes, 12650 Scheduled Castes, and 1,204 for Scheduled Tribes as per the official announcement.
It was revealed that 20% of positions available were reserved for women.

Individuals applying to work for Uttar Pradesh Police must first have successfully passed 12th grade from an official board in India and thoroughly understand all age restrictions before using – the age restriction has recently been modified for this year’s recruitment cycle.
Minimum Age requirements for male applicants in general categories are set between 18-25 years and 18-28 for females. OBC/SC/ST (Male) applicants have an upper limit age between 18-30, with females belonging to this category needing to be between 18-30.

Many candidates have made their demands known and requested breaks in age restrictions. Registration of candidates takes place after five years have elapsed.
Candidates have asked their state governments for two to four-year age increases. Twenty-nine individuals made requests during the winter holiday to further relax their age; consideration will occur during this period.
In 2017, government officials from Uttar Pradesh submitted a statement to the Supreme Court stating that thirty thousand recruitments would happen each August from 2017 until 2020.
However, this process has been postponed over time and now appears unlikely. The last hiring happened in 2018 when 41520 of 49568 employees were hired into the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Since 2019, state authorities have begun applying to candidates who qualified in 2019 or 2020 but have yet to meet the age requirements for employment in 2019/2020; consequently, they are seeking an age waiver.
The application period for the Police Constable Recruitment in Uttar Pradesh will commence from December 27 to January 16, with eligible and interested individuals having until then to make online submission of their applications at uppbpb.gov.in via Debit/Credit Card/Internet Banking UPI payment of Rs 400 online as part of submitting them.
