IND vs SA: Can India Break Their 32 Years Record

IND vs SA: Virat Kohli was instrumental in helping India win their maiden Test Series victory in South Africa under Jacques Kallis’ leadership.

Kohli’s performances at the 2023 ICC World Cup cemented his place in cricket history. His 765 runs across 11 innings set a World Cup player record.

Kohli maintained an average strike rate of 90.3, with his strike rate rising to 90.3. With bat in hand, Kohli was an outstanding performer, amassing three hundred and six fifties during the tournament, including an essential 54-run knock against Australia in Ahmedabad’s final.

This record surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s 2003 World Cup record, ultimately leading him to earn the “Player of the Tournament” accolade despite India failing to lift the trophy; furthermore, he scored his 50th ODI hundred, breaking another of Tendulkar’s records.

Kohli has made quite the mark in South Africa. The Indian star batsman has amassed 719 runs across 14 innings at an average of 51.36 and scored two hundred, three fifties, and more during this period.

Kallis believes Kohli holds the key to altering this statistic. Kallis recently told Star Sports that Indian star Virat Kohli could assist his teammates for the first time, given India’s recent success against South Africa.

Kallis believes Kohli will look to win the series and play an instrumental role in India beating South Africa for the first time.

“He is an outstanding player no matter where he competes. Having enjoyed much success here, he will share that knowledge with other players – particularly younger ones – guiding them as they navigate conditions and what lies ahead.

“He must want to play well for India in South Africa. His recent form has been exceptional. If they want to win, it will be essential for him to perform,” Kallis commented.

IND vs SA – Match in 2023

India and South Africa: India’s South Africa tour is underway, with their young team arriving in Durban on Friday, 6 December. Starting on 10 December, there will be three T20 matches before 3 One Day Internationals start up again on 17 December, followed by 2 Test matches beginning on 26 December – these test and T20 games are essential as Team India prepares to compete in next year’s T20 World Cup and ICC World Test Championship events.

Due to evident deficiencies, India and South Africa were eliminated from the 2023 ICC World Cup. So, let’s revisit India’s previous series against South Africa.

India vs South Africa – How Did Previous India Tours Go?

1. 1992/93: Mohammed Azharuddin led India on their inaugural tour to South Africa, competing in four Test matches and seven One Day Internationals against South Africa – with three drawn and South Africa winning one test; overall results did not favour India; South Africa emerged victorious 5-2 in the One Day Series.

2. 1996/97: The same results were observed in South Africa when India lost 2-0 in the three-match test series.

3. 2001/02: In 2001/02, the results were the same as in previous years. India lost a three-match test series against South Africa 2-0.

4. 2002/2009: Team India made their initial breakthrough in Johannesburg. Thanks to Sreesanth’s outstanding spell, India won their inaugural Test match in South Africa despite losing both tests and the ODI series by an aggregate score of 0-4. Regardless, their performance gave hope for victory among Indian fans.

5. 2010/11: The Indian Cricket Team successfully tamed South Africa’s Test Talent during the 2010-11 Tour. MS Dhoni led India to a 1-1 tie in the Test Series.

6. 2013/14: The Indian cricket team’s tour of South Africa was one of their most disastrous, as they failed to win a single match. India lost both the ODI and Test series by a combined score of 2-0.

7. 2017/18: Team India, led by the young Virat Kohli, embarked on a second tour to South Africa. This time, they won the ODI Series. The team still lost the Test Series 2-1.

8. 2022: It was the last visit of India and South Africa to South Africa, and the Proteas maintained their dominance in Test format as they defeated India again 2-1 on their last tour.
