IND vs SA: India pace bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan created chaos during the opening ODI played at The Wanderers on Sunday. Led by KL Rahul, India won by eight wickets with KL Rahul as their captain.
Avesh took four wickets in eight overs on a wicket that offered pace to quick bowlers, while Arshdeep finished his ten overs with five wickets for 37 in total. Overall, South Africa lost only by 116 runs over 27.3 overs!
Sai Sudharsan (55″ not out) and Shreyas Iyer (52) both scored brilliant half-centuries to help chase down the target in 16.4 overs with only two wickets being lost.
India and South Africa awarded their debut caps to B Sai Sudharsan, a 22-year old top order batsman, and Nandre Burger, a bowling allrounder, respectively.
The Proteas’ momentum waned, and they lost wickets as India’s Arshdeep took four wickets. At the same time, Avesh picked up one, and Kuldeep Yadav completed their innings in signature style. India needs 117 runs from 27 overs for victory.
Arshdeep left Hendricks out in the second over and Dussen in the third – both batsmen remained scoreless throughout.
KL Rahul caught Arshdeep off his fifth delivery in the 8th Over, dismissing Zorzi with one last ball from Arshdeep 10th- over delivery, which hit Klaasen’s stumps and got rid of South Africa’s chance.
Avesh Khan struck again, dismissing Wiaan Mulder for a golden duck on his next delivery, David Miller (2) on the 13th over’s last delivery, and Keshav Maharaj (4th wicket). Keshav Maharaj (4th wicket) fell within 17 deliveries – taking out his fourth wicket with his 17thover’s first delivery!
Arshdeep Singh bowled his 26th over and immediately claimed one wicket – Andile Phehlukwayo (33) hit LBW on his opening delivery, which marked Arshdeep Singh’s fifth scalp.
Kuldeep Yadav returned to end South Africa’s innings in his signature fashion by breaking their stumps in the 28th Over – effectively concluding SA’s innings and taking all three points in this match.
Andile Phehlukwayo led SA with 33 runs, while Tony de Zorzi came second with 28. Neither player could reach 15 runs on their own.
After successfully concluding their T20 series, India will face South Africa today in an ODI format matchup. KL Rahul leads India without its top players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli; Aiden Markram captains South Africa’s young squad led by Aiden.
The ODI Series marks the return of several key players such as KL Rahul, Sanju Samson Yuzvendrachahal, etc. KL Rahul, Samson’s captain, said he would bat in the middle order, an order he has held throughout his ODI career.

Arshdeep later expressed his appreciation to KL Rahul, his captain, for motivating him to chase the fifth wicket.

Markram, South Africa’s Skipper, Says Indian Bowlers Were Very Good At Lateral Movement
“(This was) a tough one (the loss). We would have liked to get off to a good start by batting first; unfortunately, their bowling attack was impressive with its lateral movement. It prevented us from building partnerships or settling down, creating problems right from the beginning, and we could never recover. (Misread pitch?) Initially, we thought the ball might move for about seven overs as previous day games had; however, today it took longer, leaving us without opportunities to form partnerships,” Aiden Markram lamented during a post-match presentation.
