India is the No. 1 Team in the ICC Ranking

India has overtaken Pakistan in both ODI and T20 rankings following their 5-wicket win against Australia, taking first place in the ICC ranking all formats, with Australia closely following.

India has now established itself as the world’s best ODI team with an overall rating and 4,864 point total of 116, surpassing Pakistan (115 ratings) as the best in their respective spheres.

In comparison, Australia has dropped two rating points down to third position (111 rating points total).

India has now achieved the feat of dominating all three formats of cricket. India led in the T20 rankings with an outstanding score of 264 and totaled 15,589 points; for Test matches, they earned 3,434 points with a 118 rating score and rating score of 264; India is just the second team after South Africa to accomplish such a feat in history.

India currently leads England in T20I rankings and overtakes Pakistan to claim the top ODI rankings. At the same time, Australia trails closely behind in Test cricket rankings.

India, who won the Asia Cup in 2013, entered their three-match series against Australia below Pakistan. India eventually won their opening game and achieved an outstanding score of 116 to surpass Pakistan by one point.

India has become only the second team ever in ICC history to hold all three formats simultaneously at No. 1. South Africa became the first team to do this when they defeated England for the Test mace in August 2012 and took it home. By August 2013, they also achieved No.1 ranking across all three formats.

Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI, tweeted in appreciation of India becoming number one in Tests, ODIs, and T20I cricket: “Congratulations to #TeamIndia on their historic achievement: they now lead all three formats! Their hard work on the field is reflected in rankings! What an outstanding milestone just before the World Cup tournament starts in England & Wales!” The victory at Mohali also gave India an early 1-0 advantage against Australia! So let’s keep up this momentum!”

Rohit Sharma was rested for the opening two games to ensure his players would remain fresh for their home World Cup opener on October 5. Gaikwad took over the captaincy from Rohit so as to prepare the team as best as possible for its big match on October 5.

Adam Zampa had removed both openers before Shreyas Iyer was run out, giving Australia hope in their bid for victory.

Suryakumar scored an unorthodox fifty, while Rahul batted intelligently to frustrate Australia – Rahul scoring 58 without being out and hitting Abbott with four-and-six to secure India’s victory and ensure their three-match series ended up as scheduled by Wednesday in Rajkot.
