Smriti Mandana, Captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s Squad, wishes WPL to follow the IPL model by expanding to multiple cities.

Smriti Mdhana, Captain of RCB Women’s Team, discussed potential implications for a multi-city model for the Women’s Premier League at RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India last week in Bengaluru.

Mandhana was delighted by the idea of adopting a multi-city model while reflecting on WPL’s success at the summit. This first-of-its-kind event brought together leaders from various businesses to discuss sports in the future.

IPL has long been played in a multi-city format. It has become the wealthiest and most lucrative franchise-based T20 league worldwide since it began with eight teams (now 10). Games were scheduled in a home-and-away format.

“WPL as a multi-city format would be wonderful. As a fan of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), I would love to play there where the crowd are cheering RCB RCB; it creates a fantastic atmosphere – and would allow us to reach places women’s Cricket has not previously reached, while drawing new audiences into women’s Cricket,” Mandhana stated.

She believes the Leaders Meet India event hosted by RCB Innovation Lab was essential in understanding different businesspeople’s perspectives on sports as a means of creating digital numbers. She frequently repeats it to network with other business leaders and sports icons.

Aheahana stressed the significance of the welcoming atmosphere created by her franchise and stated that she would prioritize spending time with her team.

Mandhana stated, “We have carefully considered which combinations will suit us best in terms of release or retention, and are looking forward to the WPL auctions in hopes of getting all of the players we desire.”

Mandhana made remarks on the development of women’s sports in India that highlighted their outstanding accomplishments over recent years, emphasizing their cultural shift with comments like:

“Women have accomplished amazing things over recent years in India – not just general women’s sport but specifically Cricket. Their success at tournaments like the Asian or Commonwealth Games inspires smaller city girls across India;

I believe women’s sports should receive special consideration and get their own ticketing and digital rights sale platform to sell tickets and rights more easily.”
