Asian Games: India Makes Remarkable Impression

India achieved a historic feat at the Asian Games 2023 by collecting over 100 medals – the first time this feat occurred. India women’s team won gold at the women’s competition on October 7th, 2023, an outstanding accomplishment.

India’s contingent that participated at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou was a remarkable success, winning 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze during this edition – never before achieved such an outstanding haul at one quadrennial event; India finished 4th out of 6 nations for a total medal count behind China and Japan.

India broke their previous record of 14 medals at Doha 2006 by winning 22 in China. Twelve awards came from team events: Men’s, Women’s Cricket, and Kabaddi Teams won double gold.

India was dominant in compound archery, winning all five medals available and featuring multiple triple medalists, including Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Prvin Deotale, who completed a fantastic triple performance to secure compound archery as part of its Olympic program ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty earned India’s inaugural badminton gold medal with an emphatic victory in the men’s singles final of men’s badminton at Rio 2016. Overall, India earned three awards, and this performance represented their second-best performance ever at a Games.

These medal-winning performances brought India to glory and guaranteed athletes their places at the Paris 2024 Olympics. India won gold in men’s team basketball.

At the same time, boxers Nikhat Zareen (pictured), Parveen, Preeti, and Lovlina earned bronze and are guaranteed participation in France’s capital, which will host this premier event less than 300 days away.
