Sameer Dixit from Mumbai, one of the distributors, claimed that “Dunki” will outdo Salaar regarding collection. According to Sameer Dixit: “One thing is evident: Dunki has the edge over Salaar for two reasons:
(1) in practice, the Bollywood film industry works on previous hits, and this year Jawan proved very successful at the box office, and theatres are excited for Dunki as both stars – Shah Rukh Khan & Rajkumar Hirani have established huge fan bases as they’ve had non-stop successes throughout their careers – as both have enjoyed tremendously successful runs in Hollywood film industry based off previous hits. Theatres excited for Dunki due to casting as both actors have had previous successes as seen from previous projects they worked on.
(2) Trailer and teasers for Shah Rukh starrer Dunki were well received on our trade circuit – most trade members liked what they saw going to see it.”
Prabhas’ recent films have been minor hits, apart from Baahubali. However, he enjoys a large fan base in South India, which could also prove successful. “I think Prabhas could do well there,” concluded Prabhas.
Who will receive how many screens? Dixit noted that Prabhas and Shah Rukh Khan do not compare. Thus, 6 out of 10 theatres would feature Dunki, while only four would showcase Salaar.
Dixit quickly explained that adding additional screens would prove challenging and could be postponed due to pre-blocking systems for more prominent films that prevent Salaar from securing certain theatres. they will face significant difficulties exhibiting or showcasing.
“Salaar has failed to create much buzz among distributors. however, Dunki could open at Rs 60-70 crores or even higher, perhaps even with an opening day totaling 100 crores or even more! Dunki is the clear winner.”
Akshaye Rahthi, an exhibitor in India, noted the competition as “two superstars from India, directed by two highly successful directors.
It’s good that these films cater to different audiences and genres, even if they do overlap a little.” Though these films may clash at some point in their release dates, Akshaye believes this will be beneficial. Both films feature different audiences.
Dunki and Salaar, on the other hand, tend to be more prevalent in North India, while Prabhas are famous throughout. Rathi noted that both actors would do well as pan-Indian stars with a strong appeal across India.
Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan enjoys an expansive fan base across all regions. Rathi felt this North-South divide was becoming less severe. Both actors will do great.
Akshaye also spoke about how both movies are competing for screens. According to Akshaye, screen time for any film depends heavily on supply and demand.
Any film that generates enough buzz to gain audience traction always succeeds: “Both Salaar and Dunki are generating much discussion among their respective audiences.”
“I am not concerned. as long as everything is in order, everything will go as expected,” said Mr. Dworkin.
Will “Dunki” earn Rs 60-70 billion on its opening day? Mr. Hirani replied that it’s impossible to predict. Films that start strong tend to increase over time due to word of mouth, and I don’t have opening numbers for “Dunki.” Shah Rukh Khan could make it an overwhelming hit.
Even if it fails, there is no need to give up hope since Rajkumar Hirani’s movie is considered “embrace ka goods,” and Dunki is its marathon runner.
