The agency announced the earthquake on X (formerly Twitter).
Many people in Delhi and other parts of the capital region fled their homes. They posted videos on social media of chandeliers and fans swinging, demonstrating the earthquake’s power.
There were also tremors in Bihar, Uttarakhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
It is the third strong earthquake in Nepal within a month. Nepal is in a tectonic zone that is one of the most active on earth, making it very vulnerable to earthquakes.
After four earthquakes struck Nepal in an hour, strong tremors could be felt on October 3. Within 25 minutes, earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.6, 6.2, and 3.8 were all felt. A third, of magnitude 3.8, was felt 15 minutes later, and the fourth, of magnitude 3.1, 13 minutes after that.

Ajay, a seismologist who worked previously at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology in Nepal, said that the epicenter of Friday’s earthquake occurred close to the location of the October 3, 2015 quakes. He identified the area as the central belt in Nepal, where “active energy-releasing sectors” are located.
He also said that the public should be alert to earthquakes and prepared if they occur.
Earthquake in Bihar, North India: Reactions
Tushar, a Noida resident, said to the news agency ANI: “I was watching TV when I felt dizzy. Then I saw the earthquake on TV, and I rushed out of my house.”
“I was lying in bed when it began shaking. I noticed that even the ceiling fan moved, so I left my house,” said a Patna resident.
