Ravi Bishnoi Become World’s No. 1 T20I Bowler

The Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi jumped seven places to become the world’s No. 1 bowler in ICC T20I Ranking. Ravi Bishnoi has arrived as a T20I bowler of note.

Now, with 699 points after taking nine wickets against Australia at an average of 18.22, Bishnoi has dislodged Rashid Khan from being No 1.

By pushing Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka and Adil Rashid from England into joint first position alongside himself as No 1, Ravi has successfully displaced Rashid as No 1.

Maheesh Teekshana from Sri Lanka sits third, followed by Wanindu Hasaranga from Sri Lanka as No 5, with Maheesh Teekshana also playing their spin ace from Sri Lanka being in their Top 5.

All five players hail from their country of Sri Lanka, with Maheesh Teekshana being among them all! This list features five spinners who all come into their ranks when using the ranking system of T20I bowlers!

Bishnoi had made rapid strides upward in his rankings since representing India at the Under-19 World Cup 2022, where he took 17 scalps as top wicket-taker en route to helping India win their trophy.

Following an outstanding performance against Australia on Wednesday – recording figures such as 3/32, 2/32, 2/29, 1/17 and 1/54 against them – Bishnoi leapt six places up into first position on this ranking list.

His meteoric rise could only come about because he excelled against them, where his figures stood out significantly from all others on show during their defeat by Australia on Wednesday.

Bishnoi made his India debut during the Asia Cup later that same year. He quickly made an impression by knocking former Pakistan captain Babar Azam out of the game.

Bishnoi, having only played 21 ODIs so far, has already taken 34 wickets averaging 17.38, with his best performance being 4/16 against West Indies at Lauderhill last August.

Now, Bishnoi is auditioning for next year’s T20 World Cup; therefore, his ranking was just in time. Bishnoi has emerged as a strong contender to be India’s best spinner at the ICC tournament starting next month.

Bishnoi would make an ideal candidate for India management, seeking a young squad ahead of World Cup events to be hosted in West Indies, USA and West Indies.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been removed from T20I duty; Axar Patel (another India spinner preparing for West Indies/USA World Cup events), too, has made significant advances and now ranks 18th;

Suryakumar is still the top T20I batsman while Hardik (who hasn’t played one yet) has made enormous strides forward since his T20I debut two months ago.

BISHNOI’s Rise to the Top

Ravi Bishnoi was previously ranked fifth, but after his spectacular showing against Australia, he earned 34 more points to move him up into second place above Rashid Khan (who has held first since March 2023). Now, Bishnoi stands with seven more than Rashid has.

Ravi Bishnoi, who took nine wickets over five matches in the T20I Series against Australia, was the top wicket-taker. Bishnoi made his T20I debut only recently – in February 2022 – playing in 21 matches and taking 34 wickets.

Ravi Bishnoi’s recent performances have demonstrated his worth to selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Bishnoi will go head-to-head against Axar Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav as fierce competitors for one of two slots for spinners in this tournament.

Ruturaj Gaikwad maintained his seventh place on the ICC Batting Rankings by scoring 223 runs across five T20I matches during their recent series against Australia, including achieving an unbeaten century in Guwahati but losing to Glenn Maxwell’s special delivery in Guwahati.

Hardik Pandya led India to 11 T20I victories during 2023 and remains third on the ICC T20I Allrounders ranking despite not playing since suffering an ankle injury during the World Cup game 2023 against Bangladesh.
