When is Windows 12 Coming?

Microsoft began reportedly implementing a new Windows update cadence, where major versions are released every three years. This same cadence could theoretically result in a Windows 12 release in the June 2024.

Microsoft had previously stated that feature updates would be released annually rather than twice yearly. Windows 11 Update 22H2 will be released in the second half of 2022, and 23H2 in 2023.

In a September interview with Intel’s Chief Financial Officer, he stated that the release of Windows 12 in 2024 would be a significant boost to PC sales. Qualcomm has also released statements that point to Windows 12 being released in 2024.

There are increasing signs that Windows 12 will not be released in 2024. The executives who say “the next Windows” (none of them have mentioned “Windows 12”) refer to a version that includes Windows 11 22H2 or 23H2. Microsoft’s support documents have made references to the 24H2 Windows version.
